Staff creates aura of cleanliness
The custodial staff at WHS does a variety of jobs, from helping students with their lockers to cleaning up their messes.
WHS custodial staff member, Cynthia Pumphrey, tells what being a custodian entails.
“We make sure everything is ready for school, and everything is ready for activities as far as set ups,” Pumphrey said.
Substitute custodian, Dale Bowman finds his job to have some rewards.
“It’s nice to know that we’re doing a good job and that it [WHS] is clean. It’s also nice to know that people know we’re doing a great job,” Bowman said.
Andrew Bratcher, associate principal, had the privilege of working with the custodial staff five years ago when the district closed two elementary schools and moved the eighth graders to the high school.
“The work was very difficult. Not only did they have to move classrooms from building to building, but they had to complete all the summer tasks that would normally take them all summer anyhow,” Bratcher said.
While to the eyes of students the custodians might just clean up their messes, the custodial staff does much more than that job.
