Summer job season is approaching. Here’s how to find—and get—the perfect summer job for you.
1
Decide what you want to do and find jobs in that field
TIP: “If you think your summer job is in an area that will interest you in the future, that would be worth expressing in your interview.” – Dee Vaidya, chairman of NobleTek and successful entrepreneur TIP: Use websites like Monster.com, or local agencies like ManCan and Spherion. 2
Build a résumé that makes you stand out
TIP: “If you don’t have the experience, come across as sincere, eager to learn, and willing to do whatever the employer asks of them” – Dee Vaidya TIP: Tailor your résumé to every job to which you apply, according to Guardian Jobs. 3
Nail the interview
TIP: Dress for success – this includes shaving. Vaidya advises.“Convey that you think the meeting is important, the interviewer is important, so you’re going above and beyond.” TIP: Do your homework – research the job for which you are applying before the interview. Vaidya warns asking many obvious questions can be a turn-off for interviewers. TIP: Talk to people with the job you seek to find out more information, said Vaidya. 4
Follow up to seal the deal
TIP: Stay organized – Cornell College recommends you track the jobs for which you applied, when you applied, with whom you have spoken and when you plan to follow up. TIP: Communicate using a professional-sounding email address, advises Guardian Jobs.
