Band announces Beatles tribute collaboration album
Oct. 28, The Flaming Lips will release a full album cover of The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
The album will be titled With a Little Help from My Fwends. Miley Cyrus and Moby are to be featured on “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds,” one of the Beatles’ classic songs that is being recorded.
Other artists include J Mascis, Tegan & Sara and Maynard James Keenan from Tool.
“It’s really just a lot of great friends of mine who are contributing,” stated Wayne Coyne, lead singer for The Flaming Lips.
Part of the earnings will benefit the Bella Foundation, an organization in Oklahoma City, hometown of the band, which helps elderly, ill or low income pet owners with vet bills. Coyne explains the poor condition of the animal welfare situation in Oklahoma City and hopes that a portion of the album’s proceeds will be able to help in some way.
Coyne also said “People are like, ‘why do you do Beatles songs?’ And I’m like ‘Because people love them.’ I think it’ll generate a lot of interest.”
The album will contain 13 tracks, including hits “A Day in The Life,” “With A Little Help From My Friends” and “When I’m Sixty-Four.”
Anyone who pre-orders the album will receive a download of one of the album tracks and the album will then be available for purchase on vinyl once released.
