Track starts off strong
The seventh and eighth grade track and field team includes a squad of 90 students and will have seven meets this spring season.
The team is coached by head coaches Matthew Bobola and Ashley Reed, and assistant coaches, Dawn Blattel and Hannah Kulka.
Bobola, says he believes the team’s relays will be strong this year and notes that the team has serious talent in boys throwing events.
Bobola says he is excited for this year’s seventh grade invitational. This is the first year they have held this meet and he is excited because it gives the seventh graders a chance to excel in events they might otherwise not have the opportunity to do.
Maddie Helms, who participates in long jump and distance events, says “By running track, you are lapping everyone on the couch.”
The team’s first meet against Orrville showed that the teams’ eighth grade front runners, who received first at Orrville, according to Matt Bobola, include Molly Schneider in both hurdle events, Melina Mera in the 1600 meter run, Maddie McCoy in the 200 meter dash, Elijah Hall in the 100 meter dash and Xavier Lubell in high jump and the 1600 meter run.
Bobola has high hopes for upcoming meets and the OCC competition and the team’s next meet will be the Orrville Invitational on April 14 at 4:30 p.m.
