The Big Band Dance swings into Wooster
On April 30, the annual WHS Big Band Dance will take place from 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.
The dance costs $10 per person and is run by music director, Dan Adams, and the WHS Jazz Band.
Adams wants to keep the tradition of a swing dance alive because of its enjoyable atmosphere and distinctness.
“[The Big Band Dance] scoops up many different groups, like kids, parents and grandparents. I think that in itself is very unique,” Adams said.
The dance also is unique, having free dance lessons from a professional dance instructor an hour prior to the actual dance.
During the course of the dance, the WHS Jazz Band plays swing music to fit with the “Saturday Night Swing!” theme, according to the WHS Music website.
Second year band member, Matt Chidsey (11), is glad he is able to participate in this event.
“I thoroughly enjoy being a part of band. The people and the music make it one of my favorite classes. And, [the Big Band Dance] is a magical experience,” Chidsey said.
The dance also has free hors d’oeuvres provided by parents of students in the music program.
Tickets can be purchased ahead of time from Dan Adams or at the dance itself.
